Since 1998, Visual AIDS has produced the annual Postcards From The Edge exhibition. The organization utilizes art to fight AIDS by provoking dialogue, supporting HIV+ artists, and preserving a legacy, because AIDS is not over.
Postcards From The Edge is an exhibition and benefit sale of over 1,400 original, postcard-sized works of art by internationally renowned and emerging artists. This will be my second year submitting to this exhibition (the first being 2008)…which is scheduled to be on view January 30-February 1, 2015 at Luhring Augustine in New York City.
Offered on a first-come, first-served basis, each piece is exhibited anonymously, and the identity of the artist is revealed only after the work is purchased. With the playing field leveled, all participants can take home a piece by a famous artist, or one who’s just making his/her debut in the art world. Nonetheless, collectors walk away with something beautiful, a piece of art they love. All Postcards From the Edge proceeds support the programs of Visual AIDS.
Artists who have submitted work for Postcards from The Edge include Sol LeWitt, Glenn Ligon, Kerry James Marshall, Yoko Ono, Betye Saar, Cindy Sherman, Kiki Smith among others.
Above is a piece I am submitting to this year’s exhibition. For more information visit https://www.visualaids.org/projects/detail/postcards
